Each activity is carefully designed to be short and sweet, and the app transitions between activities quickly and smoothly. It also covers skills and concepts in science, social-emotional learning, fine-motor skills, and executive function (like memory, planning and problem-solving), to name a few. It covers key concepts in academic skills like language development, reading readiness, numbers and early math, and more. Khan Academy Kids is as comprehensive of an early learning app as I have ever seen. Since it is adaptive, kids won’t be bored by repeating things they’ve already learned, but those that need extra time to learn will have it. The activities are fast paced, but provide enough repetition to help children master skills. Young children are likely to play again and again. This app is highly educational, but it’s also very engaging. This app clearly taps into the power of tablets, and exemplifies what apps for young children should look like. Parents can set up individualized tracks for multiple children and teachers may even be able to set up for their classrooms (I set up 10 children and it still allowed for more). It works quickly and smoothly, and will adapt and change the content as children demonstrate they have learned core concepts. The app is designed for the youngest players and is very intuitive to use. Khan Academy Kids is a great example of a very high quality app for the very young. It includes a wealth of age-appropriate activities that will help young children learn about letters, numbers, colors, measurement, science, health, readiness skills, and more. Khan Academy Kids is a comprehensive toddler, preschool, and early learning app designed for children ages 2 to 6+.
